Key HR strategies and tactics used during the Humanitarian Operation by SL Army


Introduction

The Sri Lankan Civil War, which lasted from 1983 to 2009, concluded with significant military strategies employed by the Sri Lankan Army to defeat the LTTE. The following outlines key HR strategies and military tactics used during the conflict:

Recruitment and Selection

In response to escalating conflict, the SL Army implemented aggressive recruitment drives. This included attracting volunteers through nationalistic appeals and incentives such as financial benefits and career opportunities within the military and implemented stringent recruitment processes to ensure that new recruits were physically and mentally fit for combat.

Training and Development

SL Army focused on intensive training programs aimed at improving combat readiness. This included not only conventional military tactics but also counter-insurgency operations tailored to the unique challenges posed by the LTTE, which had established a quasi-state in the Northern Province

Specialized training was provided for specific roles, such as snipers, engineers, and medics.

Operational Tactics

The SL Army used a comprehensive military strategy that combined ground assaults with aerial bombardments. This approach aimed to maximize pressure on LTTE forces while minimizing civilian casualties.

Use of Modern Technology and Intelligence

The integration of advanced surveillance technologies and intelligence-gathering methods allowed the Sri Lankan Army to track LTTE movements effectively.







 

 

Leadership Development: SL Army involved for developing strong and effective leaders who could inspire and motivate their respective teams

Recognition and Rewards:Recognition and award of high achieving was a key to    raise the morale,buildup senses of pride in solder. 

Psychological Support:The Army provided psychological support services to help soldiers cope with the  trauma of  war. 

Post-War Management (Reintegration Efforts):After the final defeat of LTTE, SL Army had an important role to play in ensuring post war reconstruction. These included efforts to return ex-combatants back into the community and meet humanitarian needs in conflict zones.

Continued Military Presence:The government continued to maintain a military presence in the North to prevent any new LTTE activities and ensure stability.

Conclusion

HRM strategies pursued by Sri Lanka Army that made military triumph over the LTTE during civil war. Army focused on recruitment, leadership development, community engagement and post war transition to not only advance its operational capabilities but also played a part in winning hearts for the subsequent stabilization of peace.
